OLIVE OIL TASTING FRIDAY, APRIL 25!

Join our good friend and personal chef, Joel Boland as he helps us better understand the world of olive oil.  Like wine, coffee and chocolate - olive oil tastes different depending on where the olives are grown and how they're processed.  Joel's oils originate in South America, Italy, New Zealand, Spain and Australia (to name a few).  Using the right olive oil for the right job in the kitchen can make a world of difference in the final dish.  Different origins, different flavors - different uses and Joel is the expert that can help you learn what to use - when!  Stop in 12-3 to TASTE and learn!

LOCAL MICHIGAN PRODUCE
LOCAL MICHIGAN PRODUCE

From Ottawa County, Mud Lake Farms is owned and operated by the Van Haitsma Family.  Kris delivers weekly to Grand River Grocery her exquisite hydroponically grown lettuces, arugula, herbs, watercress and whatever else she might have available.  Drizzled with one of Joels' (the right) olive oils, a sprinkle of our Fleur del Sel, a little shaved pecorino cheese or Dancing Goat Creamery Goat cheese, and a splash of balsamic vinegar and you've got an amazing fresh salad.  The simplicity makes the flavors stand out.

NOTE:  When buying produce, look for locally grown over organic.  Many organics come from California and South America leaving a HUGE carbon footprint on the earth.  Buy local and buy fresh.  Many of the small local farms like the Van Haitsma's use natural forms of pest control, like "ladybugs".  Organic certification is cost prohibitive for most small local farmers, but their products are far superior to anything coming from thousands of miles away, not to mention - fresher!

LOOK FOR:  Seasonal fresh produce from Bos and Ingraberg Farms as it becomes available at Grand River Grocery

DANCING GOAT CREAMERY
DANCING GOAT CREAMERY

It's springtime and that means "goat cheese time"!  As we move into warmer weather it's time to reacquaint ourselves with soft cheeses, in particular fresh goat cheese.  We've got Dancing Goat Creamery back in the market.  We were the first to introduce Barbara's fresh goat cheese last summer and as we head into the warmer weather she has outdone herself with her new Honey Comb Orange Goat Cheese - we've honestly not tasted a better cheese! Pair with a nice chilled Sauvignon Blanc.
