Jeff and I had a very relaxing week at the Miraval Resort in Tuscon Arizona a couple weeks ago and we discovered a couple great sips that I asked Sarah Andro to get into the market for us - since she just had her baby (a girl - Hazel), I thought I'd shoot you a quick email about these two wines which are now available at the market.
CHASING VENUS: Sauvignon Blanc '07 from Marlborough, New Zealand $17.99 a bottle / $183.50 per case (includes 15% case discount)
Some of the best Sauvignon Blanc comes from this region in New Zealand and Chasing Venus is no exception. This wine represents everything Jeff and I like in a Sauvignon Blanc. Dan Cedarquist supervises the production of this wine and it's full of big, ripe, aggressive grapefruit with a nice balance of gooseberry that has made this region so famous for Sauvignon Blanc. A perfect sip before dinner or paired with grilled shellfish.
SAWBUCK CABERNET '05: Mendocino County, California $10.99 a bottle / $112.10 a case (includes 15% discount)
This is a new limited production red wine gem with a great price point. The winemaker again is Dan Cedarquist, formerly with Stag's Leap Wine Cellars and De Loach Vineyards. This new winery's vision is compelling: "Produce wines we love to drink at prices we don't mind paying." Mission accomplished! Sawbuck Cabernet is 95% cabernet sauvignon blended with 5% petit verdot. Great color and intensity. Red raspberry, chocolate, toasty oak and spicy aroma. Soft on the palate with layers of berries, cocoa, spice and silky tannins. Barrel aged 18 months. Love this wine with grilled meats!
