SHADY LANE CELLARS

Our third stop on our Northern Michigan Wine Tour took our team down the Leelanau Pennisula just outside Sutton's Bay to the charming little tasting room (if you like this picture I took - click on it and you'll be directed to Shady Lane website and their tasting room photo is much better than mine!) at Shady Lane Cellars.  Their tasting room is a century old fieldstone chicken coop that has been renovated and converted to their tasting room. It's really the "coolest coop" around and  we loved their wines.  2009 marks winemaker Adam Satchwells' 10th vintage with Shady Lanes and under his winemaking philosophy, they have received many accolades.

THE WINES OF SHADY LANE

Adam's winemaking philosophy is, quite simply - to produce exemplary, classic cool-climate wines, which do well in the climate of the Leelanau Pennisula. His focus is to craft wines that exhibit both elegance of structure and intensity of aroma and flavor. He is guided by the nature of the vineyards and the fruit that is produced. Every wine is a product of a thousand details, all of which need to be governed by the philosophy of reaching toward and developing an expression of place. We say congratulations on a job well done!   Available at Grand River Grocery, we have:

COOP DE BLANC:  This wine replaces their old favorite, Serenity. Produced from Vignoles, it captures the great fruit aromas of grapefruit, nectarine and pineapple this variety is known for. Made in a somewhat sweeter style Coop de Blanc is all about the fruit, the fun and the sheer drinkability. Perfect summertime wine for picnics, barbecues, spicy thai or Asian flavors, the deck or whenever you want something easy and absolutely delicious.  $12.99

And yes, the picture at left shows their Semi-Dry Riesling and not the Coup de Blanc!

LATE HARVEST VIGNOLES:  Aromas of apricot, caramel, grilled pineapple, mango, tangerine, spice and vanilla. This wine is very, very rich and lush with flavors that mirror the aromas with the pineapple and mango shining through. It has the sweetness to be served with desserts while still retaining a crisp, clean finish. Delicious!  $24.99
