MAY CREW PICKS POSTED ON WEBSITE

I had a very fun weekend up north with my girlfriends last week and I took them to Empire to visit Mimi Wheeler - "chocolatier extraordinaire"  and we purchased some of her new chocolates.  I also picked up chocolates for the market . . . just in time for Mother's Day.  We've got a new selection of Mimi's truffles in 2, 4 or 6 piece boxes, I also picked up her Wally Bars (they're my favorite) dark chocolate loaded with nuts and dried cherries, cocoa dusted chocolate covered almonds (Mimi's new favorite) and her toasted pecans with thyme and chocolate drizzle.  Click on the photo to visit our website for other Crew Picks.  And if chocolate is the right gift for mom . . . we've also got two other Michigan chocolatiers in our chocolate case!

APRONS MAKE MOM HAPPY!

We love aprons and at Grand River Grocery we have a nice assortment for Mother's Day.  This jacquard apron has a cute flip around the bottom and is only $15.00!  We've got aprons from Plumbrook as well, along with a newly arrived order of decorative kitchen towels.

Apron not the right gift?  How about beautifully packaged scented candles or stationary, or the new craze around the dinner table called "Table Topics", or maybe something from Blueberry Haven, like a nicely packaged bag of chocolate covered blueberries!  We've got lots of great gifts for Mom.

CUTTING BOARDS ARE GREAT WEDDING GIFTS!

At the Housewares Show this past March we stumbled on a couple young guys who had started a business making gorgeous cutting boards and butcher blocks out of teak - ProTeak.  The wood used is sustainable and easy to care for, you simply wipe the boards off with soapy water and apply mineral oil occasionally to rejuvenate the wood.  The natural wood patterns are beautiful.  These boards are durable and will stand up to kitchen prep work, yet will stand on their own as a lovely serving piece for cheese.  Definately not something to hide in your drawer, their natural beauty make them a perfect counter top accessory.

RECIPE

For my "Girls Weekend" up north, we cooked in Saturday night and I planned a very simple, healthy and delicious menu using these "secret weapons".  The recipe was inspired from the magazine, Real Simple for a "heart healthy" Pork Tenderloin with Cabbage and Apple Slaw.  To get the recipe, click on the photo and you'll see just how simple this meal was!!  We roasted sweet potatoes tossed with BLiS Morroccan Rub, marinated our pork tenderloin in Leelanau Country Inn's Cherry Maple Vinaigrette and served it with the Apple Riesling Salsa.  The cabbage slaw is perfect with this meal.
