TWO WINES WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT!

Chakana Bonarda:  $12.99

What's a "Bonarda"?  Although Malbec is Argentina's most famous grape, Bonarda (believed to have originated in Italy) deserves attention too.  The second most widely planted variety in the country it produces wines that tend to be affordable, intensely fruity and very food friendly.  And Chakana's Bonarda is great example of this grape.  Deep red in color, the nose is full of big ripe berries and the flavor has nice round tannins with a long velvet finish.

Chakana Malbec Rose:  $12.99

Yes, Malbec Rose - and this one is a winner!  The color is intense rose with violet hints and the nose is full of fresh cherry.  It's refreshing and well balanced with a gentle finish on the palate.  Bronze Medal Decanter World Awards and International Wine & Spirit Competition, Silver Medal Malbec al Mundo.

COMING IN ANY DAY:  from the winemakers at Chakana, their Maipe Bonarda $13.49.  89 points Wine Advocate - we can't wait!!

PASO Y PASO

VERDEJO FROM LA MANCHA, SPAIN:  $10.49

What's a "verdejo"?  A variety of wine grape that has long been grown in the Rueda winegrowing region of Spain.  Verdejo wines are aromatic, often soft and full bodied.  Their aroma's can be somewhat reminiscient of Sauvignon Blanc wines from a warm climate.  This particular wine is green-gold with spicy lemon and lime on the nose, with a strong mineral undertone.  The tangy citrus flavors take a riper turn on the palate, which shows pear and melon qualities.

DAMIANA LIQUEUR

Damiana liqueur is a light herbal-based liqueur from Mexico.  It's made with the damiana herb that grows in Baha California, Mexico.  It has great mixability and tastes great as a shooter. The bottle is uniquely shaped and is modeled after an Incan Goddess.  Brilliant electric golden green color.  Exotically spicy and fresh aromas of ground nutmeg, vanilla, cinnamon bark, ginger, and white pepper.  A silky entry  leads to a mildly sweet medium to full bodied palate with fresh cinnamon, ginger, ginseng, and brown spice flavors.  Finishes with a long sweet ginseng gum and spice fade.  A very interesting and exotic herbal liqueur with alleged aphrodisiac qualities - BONUS!!
