LAST STOP ON OUR MICHIGAN WINE TOUR

2 LADS WINERY ON OLD MISSION PENINSULA

The "2 lads" Chris Baldyga and Cornel Olivier will be joining us for our Michigan Winemaker Dinner on Thursday, September 16

Wine Chick Caitlin Hettinga reminces about our tour with Winemaker, Cornel . . .

Waiting for Spring:  The 22 sprawling acres of vines lay dormant in March, waiting for the Spring sunshine to bring them to life.  2 Lads specializes in cool climate reds and sparkling wines with small runs of whites to round out the lot.

Breathtaking View:  If you thought looking up at the winery was impressive, waitl til you see the million dollar view looking out onto Lake Michigan.  Pictures don't do it justice - you have to visit.

State of the Art Tasting Room:  Every detail is attended to at 2 Lads.  A gravity flow process to handle the wines improves quality and saves energy, sustainable farming keeps soil healthy and flavor pure, and specially designed glasses in the tasting room gives the wines a chance to shine by focusing aromas to the nose of the taster.  Lad Chris Baldyga says he has to have absolute confidence in the wines to use the glasses as they do - they hide no faults.

Private Tour:  In the basement of the multi-level 2 Lads facility, Lad Cornel Olivier shows us the rows of barrels of different sizes andd materials and explains how each technique lends characteristics to the wines.  It doesn't get much better than a private winery tour led by a handsome intelligent winemaker with a sexy South African accent.

THE WINES

The highlight of our Michigan Winery Tour was tasting 2 Lads wines with winemaker, Cornel Olivier.  Soft spoken and articulate, Cornel tasted us through their sparkling and still Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Riesling, dry Rose (YUM!), Merlot and Cabernet Franc.  Some of which were bottled a day or two before!  This way when we taste them again this fall at our Michigan Winemaker Dinner, we'll be able to see how wine changes in the bottle - too cool!  Both Cornel and "lad" Chris Baldyga will be in attendance at our wine dinner and the next day at our LIVE! and Local event in our beer and wine tasting tent.
