GOOD HARBOR VINEYARDS

This past March our Grand River Grocery team took a  "ROAD TRIP" north to visit Leelanau Pennisula and Old Mission Pennisula wineries.  This is the first in a series of Michigan wineries.

Good Harbor Vineyards was our first stop on the "trail". The Simpson Family is one of the oldest wine-making families on the Leelanau Penninsula.  In fact, Taylor and brother Sam (both pictured above) are "third generation", operating the business with their mother, Debbie.  Taylor and Sam's grandfather (a farmer) planted a great majority of the vineyards in Leelanau County and they are the fourth oldest established winery on the Leelanau Penninsula.  Family owned and operated . . . hands on.  The kind of business Grand River Grocery likes to partner with and is proud to represent.  Their tasting room was casual and laid back - we would strongly encourage those of you touring the Leelanau Pennisula to make a point of visiting this winery that offers really nice wines at very affordable prices.  And the Simpson Family are gracious hosts.

Pictured above, L to R:  One of the larger vineyard blocks for Fishtown White, Wine Chicks Sarah and Caitlin in the vineyard, Taylor Simpson sharing family history, located right on M-22, Sam Simpson explaining vine tending, Good Harbor Pinot Grigio, 3rd generation - Sam and Taylor, Good Harbor Vineyards has receieved many accolades through the years.

THE WINES OF GOOD HARBOR

Grand River Grocery has the following wines from Good Harbor:

MOONSTRUCK:  Aged in stainless steel tanks for 18 months, this Brut shows clean, delicate fruit aromas, a light toast from the yeast and a smooth finish.  $17.49

PINOT GRIGIO:  Bright citrus characteristics and vibrant aromas.  Nice to sip on it's own this summer or pair with lighter chicken, pork or seafood.  $13.99

CHARDONNAY:  Aged 3 months in oak and is lively and ample with delicate fruit bouquet.  Hints of caramel that we like in our oaked chards.  $11.99

RIESLING:  This late harvest is aged in stainless steel tanks and has lovely aromas of pears and honey.  $12.99

HARBOR RED:  A blend of Pinot Noir, Marechal Foch and Chambourcin, this deep garnet red wine is aged in French oak and finished in steel tanks.  Aromas of dark sweet cherries, oak and vanilla.  Soft tannins and a smooth semi dry finish.   $10.99

We have been pouring Good Harbor wines at many of our events we cater because of their affordable price AND approachable style.  Our guests have been very pleased.

We hope you'll join us for this fun and festive event.  We'll have the tent in the lot, brews from Magic Hat, a special grill menu featuring Michigan burgers, hot dogs, and a special grilling entree.  And 2 Bike Ride Options:

RIDE A - FAMILY FUN RIDE:  Ride Leader Ted Bentley (Wine Chick Sarah A's hubby and avid biker)

Ted will lead you and your family on a leisurely ride beginning in Ada and winding through the village, covered bridge to Ada Park.  This ride will be family friendly.

RIDE B - INTERMEDIATE TO MORE ADVANCED:  Ride Leader Craig Gietzen (our Beer Geek and avid biker who promises NOT to drop anyone on this ride!)

Craig will lead a more experienced group of bikers from Ada down Grand River Dr., ride will probably be about 12-18 miles.  And the grills will be on when you return!

All riders meet in the Grand River Grocery parking lot at 5:30 SHARP!  You'll be divided into your two groups.  Helmuts are required for all riders (parents that means you too!), and we're asking for a $2.00 donation to JDRF for each rider.  We'll keep the grills fired up for your return and the beer tent will be open!
