Grand River Grocery. Good Food. Good Wine. Good Life.
August 2009  | FOOD E LETTER    Forward To A Friend

Meet Josh and Melody Nobel, along with son Ezra.  Josh and Melody own and operate a small local farm in Ada on 52nd Street called Melody Bee Farm.  You can find Melody Bee produce (and Melody, Josh and Ezra) Tuesday's at the Ada Village Farmer's Market and now . . . starting this week you can find their fresh picked, homegrown produce every day at Grand River Grocery.  We also have their honeycomb honey and maple syrup.

Grand River Grocery is committed and proud to partner with so many local and Michigan food purveyors.  We hope you'll mark your calendar for Friday, September 11, noon to 5 to visit Grand River Grocery for our annual LIVE! and Local event.  A showcase of all things great in Michigan featuring over 25 local and Michigan food purveyors.  Josh, Melody and Ezra will be there too!

We're also partnering once again with The Daily Grill in Ada and will be co-hosting a Michigan dinner Thursday night, September 10 featuring Circa Wines (Leelanau Pennisula) paired with the local and Michigan inspired cuisine of Chef Ed Werner.    David and Margaret Bell, Proprietor and Winemaker of Circa will be joining us that evening to discuss their award winning Michigan wines.  Click on Josh and Melody above and they'll direct you to our website for more information on both these exciting events.

WHATS COOKIN' - Weekly Menu

AUGUST CREW PICKS - Sarah's Pick: MAIPE Bonarda 2008

$13.49 regular price ($137.60 per case, includes 15% discount)

Georgia, Connie and Wes tried this wine at Bin 36 in Chicago and liked it so much, they bought a case and Wes lugged it around Michigan Ave. on their travels that day! I have been trying to track it down for months and it’s finally here! Maipe produced 3,000 cases of this wine and imported only 890 - what I’ve got is what I’ve got!

Deep red color with violet hints. Wild berries and violet aromas, round and velvety tannins and a nice long finish. “The purple-colored 2008 Bonarda offers an enticing bourquet of smoke, mineral, and blueberry. Round and ripe on the palate, it has surprising depth and length for its humble price. Drink this succulent wine over the next 3 years.” Wine Advocate (Dec.08), 89 points
